Everyday in Paradise
Dave Green
This is my neighborhood - Hyde Park. It is isn't your everyday beat. It is only two blocks long and sits in the middle of an urban jungle called the Northend. It is the home to restaurants, antique shops, a gallery and specialty shops including EveryWear. That is where this story ends, with my shoes.
Growing from the needs of the surrounding Northend Neighborhood, Hyde Park became Boise's first suburban shopping area at the turn of the 19th century, focused around the nexus of 4 early subdivisions. Hyde Park is on the National Historic Register for several reasons. The building and architecture of the areas is unique and "sub" urban retail areas of the age of Hyde Park are unusual anywhere.
Everyday in Hyde Park is filled with activity. It has become the official mountain and touring bike headquarters of the region. With access to the Boise foothills trails, Hulls Gulch, the Ridges to Rivers Trail system, and Hill Road, Hyde Park is where the trail or road ends for walkers, hikers, mountain and road biking enthusiasts.
With seven restaurants, unique antique shops, boutiques and galleries, Hyde Park has something for everyone, including EveryWear. As the historic center of the neighborhood, Hyde Park is internationally known and the subject of articles in Yahoo Travel, Sunset, Via, National Geographic Traveler and many other national and regional publications.
EveryWear is new to Hyde Park, but the proprietress isn't. She has operated a business in Hyde Park for over 20 years. She has watched as the years have gone by and the revolving door has slowly turned. It all started 25 years ago for me and Hyde Park. It has been the scene of 70's style hippies, survived the "me generation" and yuppies, and that slowly turning, revolving door. Today it is on the verge of becoming something special, just like the Keen's I am wearing. That's EveryWear between my feet. Come in and visit and tell us your story!
